Mel Borst has lived with his family and worked in Manhattan’s older traditional neighborhoods for the last 45 years. After obtaining an interdisciplinary preservation education at Kansas State University, Mel and his wife Jan started Borst Restoration, Inc. in 1987. The company specializes in historic residential preservation, restoration and improvements. It’s success has been due in part by the knowledge and guidance received from the late Professor’s Bern Forester and Charles Bissey, P.E. Mel became a board member in 2013 as a result of the Kansas Preservation Alliance’s efforts to help him try to save the Rock Springs Water Wheel Ranch House from destruction. He now serves as co-chair with Lisa Brooksher on KPA’s Endangered Kansas Places Committee.
