Chris Johnston is a native Kansan originally from Salina and has family roots in Lincoln County where her maternal great grandparents homesteaded. She graduated from Kansas State, spent a few years in Oregon but returned to her home state with husband John to raise their children, Joe and Liz. As a partner in the CPA firm of Marsh & Company, she works with owners, developers, and property management companies on their tax credit financed real estate projects. Her firm provides consulting on organizational structure to maximize tax credit benefits, along with cost certifications, audits and tax returns. She was always intrigued with architecture and history, so becoming part of KPA was a great fit in helping preserve the Kansas built environment for future generations. As she likes to say, “Preservation is just good business.” She currently serves as KPA’s Vice President as well as Finance Chair and Advocacy Chair. Her favorite building to date is the Fox Theater in Salina that has been beautifully restored. She has great memories of childhood Saturday afternoon movies there and is delighted that it is now transformed into a community treasure.
